Round of Applause: Perrozompopo nominated for a Latin GRAMMY!!

"Round of Applause!" is dedicated to displaying
community/individual improvement and empowerment.

Today We Highlight: PERROZOMPOPO

PERROZOMPOPO has been nominated for Best Alternative Album:
CPC (CANCIONES POPULARES CONTESTATARIAS)

Our UpNtheNuves reporter,
had the privilege to meet and greet PERROZOMPOPO
artist, Ramon Mejia: singer/musician of Nicaragua, at the
1st Annual Visionary Sounds Music Benefit Festival
held in Downtown Los Angeles on August 14th, 2010.
Here was her account of her experience in meeting Ramon,
and witnessing his spectacular performance at La Cita Bar:

I had been at the festival for hours, waiting for headliner PERROZOMPOPO to hit the stage. I was given material before the festival, information on all the musical performers throughout the day. His biography was so interesting, a family of musicians with passion for music and drive to be known and heard. My feet were aching, but I had a job to accomplish. To capture the passion, the love that this artist had for his music and the audience. Before hitting the stage, Ramon Mejia known as Perrozompopo, was seen chatting, laughing, you know, schmoozing with festival attendants, friends and family.  Nothing but smiles and laughter. Once he and band members did hit the stage, that same persona that was seen outside was there on stage. The music was phenomenal!! The set was amazing, and by far the most audience filled of the night. After the show, I was asked to take fotos of him. He snatched my hat and my limited edition glasses "Spectacles" by Da Bidnez Fashion, off of me for the foto!! I am so happy to have witnessed his playfulness and love for music, life, and people. One thing I learned after the show was that he majored in Sociology at Universidad Centroamericana (UCA) de Managua. What a privilege! Congratulations for the nomination! Job well deserved!

Visionary Sounds Overview

It was a bright and sunny Saturday, August 14th, 2010 afternoon, in the heart of Historic Downtown Los Angeles, marking the 1st Annual Visionary Sounds Music Benefit Festival presented by
Mucho Wednesday's & Jarritos

This 21 and over Music Benefit Festival began at 2 pm for both those "early birds" and "mid-day wake-ups". The festival was held between two venues: La Cita Bar and Bang Gallery

La Cita Bar is home to the Mucho Wednesday family where every Wednesday night, opens its doors to showcase Latino musicians. The Bang Gallery, located at what used to be the Banco Popular, is a art venue that is open to art and music aficionados every second Thursday of the month for the Downtown Los Angeles Art Walk.
Both venues well known for celebrating the love of a craft. The Festival jump started as CONCEPTO TAMBOR hit the La Cita Stage. This talented group of musicians from the Long Beach area were full of energy, smiles, and banged their way into the hearts of those in the vicinity. The next performance was at the Bang Gallery, which, from La Cita is 2 blocks away. In between venues the Jarritos Tent offered a resting location with couches, tables, and free samples of all the Jarritos favorites. At the Jarritos tent a food court was also available to festival goers, along with Fashion and Accessory Vendors, and Live Silk Screen Printing.

After making the trip from La Cita to the Jarritos Tent, the Bang Gallery had already popped of the festival with Dj's and their first performance of the day, SANTERO.  Their Cumbia/Hip-Hop/Reggae set rocked attendees as they danced and watched the set from the dance floor. Once the festival officially started the line-up continued to bring diverse groups, musicians and performers. La Cita Stage was a full house when festival headliners NINA DIOZ and PERROZOMPOPO took the stage one after the other. Both headlining sets had the crowds moving to their unique sounds, different in both style and sound.

All musicians were greeted and welcomed by festival goers whose eclectic style and presence brought the festival to another level of excitement.

The festival was rare for it's kind. It truly was a unique Los Angeles experience that will go down in history for celebrating Latinos and bridging the gap between international musicians and aficionados.

The festival overall was a huge success. Raising money for Proyecto Pastoral at Dolores Mission who works to empower community through developing projects in education, leadership, and service. To learn more about their organization visit www.proyectopastoral.org

Sponsors for the event include Cafe Magazine, Jarritos, El Jimador,  Jack Daniel's, La Cita Bar, Bang Gallery.

For Immediate Release!!: Who? What? When? Where & Why, Come?

SUGAR is at it again!
This time around be prepared to be WOWed away!!
UpNtheNuves has the inside scoop from Sugar's very own, Timmery Turner!!
This is what Ms. T had to say:
Thanks!!!
Sugar Cubed will be nothing like any of the previous Sugar productions, other than the fact that we have some very amazing designers and artists showcasing. I decided to go with more of a theme this time, seeing that Sugar landed on Friday the 13th! Immediately I thought of the Rocky Horror Picture Show!!!! It's such a great film, and I just thought it be wild to go with that concept. So the evening begins at 8pm with an artist and photography showcase, while DJ Tessa Young is on the turntables spinning some dark and sexy music. There will be a live screening of the Rocky Horror Picture Show, which will begin around 9:30! I actually got the cast from the Nuart theatre to come and reenact a scene from the movie!!! Can't wait! That will be the start of the fashion show! I asked Laura Brown of Candy Spooky Clothing to design a line based of the characters from the movie for the show! I am truly excited to see what she's come up with! She's an amazing designer! We have 14 other designers showcasing, with a little surprise in the middle for the show...it will be unforgettable!!! Soon after the fashion show the very young all female death metal band, Infernal Vixen, will be performing a short set! This girls are phenomenal!! I don't even like death metal music, and these girls had me rocking out at the audition!!!! And then like all Sugar shows, then night will end with some dancing and partying!!! Woohoo!!!

Some of our returning artists are Booleep, Michelle Chan, Codi Dobie, and Shannon O'brien! We have 25 artists and photographers showcasing this time around, and most of them are showcasing with Sugar for the first time! I love that!!!!

We have DJ Tessa Young returning as the Sugar DJ! She's been with us since the beginning, and she is nothing less than amazing at what she does!!!!

The returning designers are Candy Spooky Clothing, Green Reincarnation, Fierce Jungle, Morning Glory, and Cheaky Clothing. We have a lot of new designers this time around, such as, Teresa Williams, Grind Mansion, CopyCat LA, Claudene Gordon, Urban Hardwear, Jessi Mount, Yoga T-Shirt Company, CandyWaxCutie, and Diana Corpus!

Most of our vendors are the designers and artists that are showcase for Sugar Cubed. So expect a lot of unique and handmade goods! We have clothing, jewelry, paintings, and prints!

What's new about Sugar Cubed is the theme, and all of the new energy surrounding the show. Our show is growing, which means our staff is growing, which means I am getting waaaay more help, which ultimately means the show will be 10 times better! At least, that's what I'm praying for! haha!
UpNtheNuves knows Timmery Turner to be a music icon in the making! When asked about whats next for this music art & fashion queen:
haha! You are to kind Miss! I think in order to be an music icon, you must be known!!! I am currently working on my sophomore album, and I have a few upcoming gigs! But my true accomplishment this week was the opening of, Little Renegades Art, which is an art school for kiddies and preteens!!! I am soooo excited about this! We have such a talented staff, and our classes are very innovative and edgy! We have a Street Art Class, where we teach preteens how to make stencils and stickers and sketch out their concepts for a mural. At the end of each course, they'll get tag my back wall of my office! We also do a Monsters and Robots class, where they make art projects based off of monsters and robots...duh! haha! And many other classes!!!
We are truly proud and inspired by Miss Turner
SUGAR Productions and more than convinced that tonight's  Friday the 13 th's event is definitely
a Hit or Miss EVENT!

Do the right thing!

Hit UP this event!
Totally UpNtheNuves worthy
