LindaNuves.com Is UP!

www.LindaNuves.com

This website on Blogger was my first blog I've ever created. I started posting in 2008 and have learned so much about what it is to be a blogger through Google. I recently bought the domain LindaNuves.com & linked it to Wordpress, because aesthetically it was more pleasing in the template department. My next goal is to take a web design class. For now, Both the blogspot & LindaNuves will have to do. I'm gearing myself up for success and I strongly believe I can get their with your love and support. Please check out both websites periodically for updates, news & more.  Remember to follow/subscribe!

Enjoy your day & keep in touch!

DIY Tutorial : Piggy Bank Workshop

My reasoning behind this video is to share with everyone the idea of saving money while being creative through recyclable materials. This video was inspired and produced for the Silverlake Jubilee that will be held on May 26 & 27th in Silverlake, Ca. Thank you to my friends of La Santa Cecilia for allowing me to use their music. Much love to everyone watching and supporting me.

Blind Faith

I believe in what I can not see before me, I believe because it moves me.
Regardless of who does and does not support me, the dream lives on because it adores me.
It calls on me, ever second of the day, cheering and crying for me to come it's way.

I am patiently aggravated with my slothy metamorphosis.

It calls me.

I must continue to move forward, blind faith is what brings me closer.

One of my favorite Madonna songs

Lyrics:

Why's it so hard to love one another
Why's it so hard to love
Why's it so hard to love one another
Why's it so hard to love
What do I have to do to be accepted
What do I have to say
What do I have to do to be respected
How do I have to play
What do I have to look like to feel I'm equal
Where do I have to go
What club do I have to join to prove I'm worthy
Who do I have to know
I'm telling you brothers, sisters
Why can't we learn to challenge the system
Without living in pain
Brothers, sisters
Why can't we learn to accept that we're different
Before it's too late
What do I have to learn to know what's right for me
What do I have to know
What am I going to do when I feel righteous
Where do I have to go
Who should get to say what I believe in
Who should have the right
What am I going to do with all this anger
Why do I have to fight
I'm telling you brothers, sisters
Why can't we learn to challenge the system
Without living in pain
Brothers, sisters
Why can't we learn to accept that we're different
Why's it so damn hard
Bring your love, sing your love
Wear your love, share your love
Bring your love, sing your love
Wear your love, share your love
Bring your love, sing your love
Wear your love, share your love
Bring your love, sing your love
Wear your love, show your sister how
(Why's it so damn hard)
Brothers, sisters
What do I have to say
Brothers, sisters
How do I have to play
Brothers, sisters
Who should have the right
Brothers, sisters
Why do I have to fight
Why's it so hard to love one another
Love your sister, love your brother
Why's it so hard to love one another
Love your sister, love your brother
Why's it so hard to love one another
Why's it so hard to love
I'm telling you brothers, sisters
Why can't we learn to challenge the system
Without living in pain
Brothers, sisters
Why can't we learn to accept that we're different
Why's it so damn hard
Sing your love, share your love
Before it's too late
Sing your love, share your love
Before it's too late
Sing your love, share your love
Before it's too late
Sing your love, share your love
Ahh
Love your brother now, show your sister how
Love your brother now, show your sister
Love your brother now, show your sister how
Love your brother now, show your sister

I wrote this poem a long time ago.

I found it more than appropriate to put up a poem I wrote about 4 years ago in conjunction with a poem I wrote today. The poem posted below this post (You Swear like you Know) was written at an age where I was ready to release the anger & hurt that my upbringing in a single parent household had formed. The poem may sound hurtful to those that may not understand, when really, my intentions were to make peace  with my mother. I have made that peace & have regain that trust with her. We've come a long way, to the point that I can be miles away, working for & participating in a lifestyle choice that I made for myself, with her full support. We have come a long way. To the point where I feel that my words matter & I have no fear or shame in speaking up for myself. Thank you madre*, for being patient with me & for your continued love. I hope you read this, and everything else I write on this page. I am your daughter and I am proud to be part of you, for always.  * madre = mother in Spanish.

We have come a long way

I was born in the summer before the sun was yet to rise.
They held me in they're arms before I could open my eyes.

The years went by before my mother & I
could really look eye to eye & realize,
that there was more to me, more to she
Where we became a we,
so that we can be,
mother and daughter,
friend & friend,
where we could live together until the end.

She is my source, my beloved, my heart.
Without her, I would not know where to start.

My grandmother, her mother, hurt her too.

It's a vicious cycle that only we hold on to,
one that must end, before our youngest continues the trend.

For now, all we can do is pray, since we have come a long way,
fought in fear and confusion, looked inside & dug deep for a reason,

so that tomorrow &/or the day after
my sister, my mother, grandmother & I can look back in laughter,

& relax on only the times that we shared most dear to our hearts, when we all had a fresh start because

We've all come a long way.

I wrote this poem a long time ago, a really long time ago, ya feel me?!

you swear like you know.

you're unbelieveable you are
walking around like you know whats up
its a shame you dont know the harm you elude
you see and then you believe
but theres more to what you think you know

remember memories last a life time
and i have a life time of memories
things so shady so hazy and unclear
that ive concluded to only one thing
and that is for all that you've known me for
from birth to this breath
you only know what u've seen and what ive allowed
for you to know

what hinders inside is just as important
like the rest.

retract your steps
retract your moves your words and words unsaid.
its what you didnt do that left me bruised.

and yet i pity you and i pity me
because we are one and the same you and i.

Because,

although we may never really see eye to eye
you are the one who gave me the color to my eyes
and yet we fight and argue for days at a time
you are the strength in my voice and the courage in my fight.
you see, even though we dont ever get along
the love and respect i have for you  lasts everlong.

(written for my madre, my mother.)

& So it's begun...

A month has gone by since I've left on tour as the Multi-Media specialist for Sugar Art and Fashion show. I've been to Texas & am currently in Georgia with the rest of the team. I'm currently writing for various online publications, such as, We Wit it L.A. (www.WeWititLA.com), Sweet Talk (www.sugarartandfashionshow.com,  College Media TV (www.CollegeMediaTv.com, & House of Blah! (www.Dabidnez.com). The mini-webisodes I film & edit while on tour are for Sugar TV, my very first one can be seen here. I manage to still have time to co-produce & promote for [blank] Tuesday, a weekly event at The Airliner every Tuesday night in Los Angeles, CA.

Right now, my main focus is on fine tuning my commitment to my crafts while discovering what it truly means to love and respect mind, body, & soul. I am ready, so, bring it on.

Last night's dream

I've been glued to the computer editing video after video, taking breaks here & there to read a book I found over 5 years ago at "Out of the Closet" thrift store. The title of the book is "The Handbook to Higher Consciousness"written by Ken Keyes Jr. The book is extremely interested & powerful. It requires me as the reader to separate my addictions (whatever makes me unhappy) & in the words of Paul McCartney "Let it be". My biggest fear is rejection. I grew up in a single parent household, where my mother was the bread winner & the care giver. She was hardly ever home & always had a new boy friend when the last didn't work out. As a teen, I started dating & lost my virginity at 15, something that to this day, I am not proud nor shameful about. I had become a mirror of my mother, seeking for love in others, whether it be boyfriends, my gal pals or through teachers & mentors. Since the age of 15, I've been in 4 relationships that lasted more than 2 years each. Now at the age of 24, I find myself single, as I had to step away from a relationship that on the outside seemed perfect while the truth of the matter was I was unhappy because I knew/know I have unsettled feelings, mixed emotions & am insecure about my self-worth.

My dream last night was about meeting someone named "You" who was, what seemed to be, the love of my life.

When I woke up this morning, all I could do was laugh.  The face of man did not stick with me since I am aware that I had been glued to the computer editing long enough that one of the images I had seen early could have seeped into my dream.

What mattered most to me was the name, the message I was receiving in my subconscious dream state. The love of me life is "you"who, I interpreted to be "me".

Because I still keep in touch with my most recent ex, get out of the blue text messages from a long time crush, meet interesting & fascinating gentlemen while on tour, it's easy to get caught up in my head.

So today, I am freeing myself from those strings of attachment. I am more focused on my well being, my state of mind, & most importantly my career. Today was yesterday's tomorrow, & I plan to make it a good one.  Thank you for reading. Please feel free to leave comments or questions. Much love & much respect, Linda V. Tovar

My Fashion Gypsy Quest

Monday March 27th marked the 2 week anniversary of my departure from Pasadena, California. My fashion gypsy expedition with the Sugar Art & Fashion show has completed it's Austin destination. The Sugar team has been intensely fun & at times over the top, but honestly, I wouldn't have it any other way.  The fashion show was Friday the 23rd of March at The Elysium on Red River St. in Downtown Austin. It was amazing. We made it safely to Atlanta, Georgia last Tuesday, after experiencing a delay in Eutaw, Alabama.  I've been pondering of the course of these past 3 weeks, what my mission was during this tour. Aside from my duties & responsibilities with SUGAR, I know that I have something to prove & show the world. When I first started in the fashion industry, I was blown away by how many people are actually involved in the scene. I was overwhelmed, unsure, & most of all scared that I was not good enough. The only way to know for sure was to dive into what is now my fashion gypsy quest. It's been tough, it's been exciting, but most of all, it's all been love. Love for the people & place I meet, Love for my designs & myself, & a Love for life, for none of this would be possible. I am excited to see how my designs evolve while on tour. I have many ideas just waiting to be sewn together. I am always thankful to you stopping by. Let's start a conversation.

"We go through New Mexico?!!"

For those that are wondering how I got involved on this fashion art tour, this article is going to sum up how I got a seat on the tour van.

In the summer of 2009 I met Timmery Turner at The Dragonfly in Hollywood. She was selling her jewelry while promoting for her "Sugar Show" that empowers and highlights women in the arts. I shared with her this very blog & got her permission to write about her jewelry & upcoming shows. I started participating as a vendor & designer with Da Bidnez Fashion Art Collective. Da Bidnez (DB) knows of the benefits and opportunities Sugar has to offer up & coming businesses, designers, musicians, & artists. That being said, when Timmery announced the Sugar does America, I knew in my heart that this was my ticket to success. I have been a Sugar supporter since the first time I met Timmery at The Dragonfly. I get to document the entire tour while sharing my designs across this beautiful and vast country.

The Sugar does America tour started in Seattle, Washington in July 2011 for Sugar does Seattle and in February 2012, Sugar does Portland made heads turn in Oregon. The Sugar team raised enough funds to buy a van, The Sugar Mobile also known as "Precious Electric Sparkle".

Precious Electric Sparkle left for California & stopped at the Tinsel Tokyo Headquarters in Burbank & payed a visit to Sugar intern Chelsi's apartment in San Bernardino. We've gone through Phoenix, Arizona & are close to the New Mexico border as we move forward to Austin, Texas. Peeps some iPhoto's:

I'm here at the bar at The Airliner sipping on a rum and cola just memorized by the amount of people grooving and chilling at blank Tuesday! There must be at least 200 people here. I'm so proud to be a part of something so special an revolutionary. We are taking back the night showcasing talent from near and far. Check out these fotos:

San Francisco then Austin

The Sugar Art and Fashion show Tour is still underway. Our next stop is Austin, Texas. Got the news that my trip starts a lot earlier than expected. I have a week to pack my belongings and equipment. Before I hit the road, I will be visiting my brother in San Francisco for a few days. He is having a launch party for his clothing line : Hometown Kings. Check them out on Facebook.

Today was truly a beautiful day. I'm blessed by the love that surrounds me. And I thank you for reading and viewing my page. Please leave me comments or suggestions . Let's start a conversation.

Here's a foto from my walk today:

Stuck in a slump

I've been feeling real frumpy lately. I can't say what exactly I'm waiting for, because ultimately it's a lifestyle that I choose. I guess am afraid of succeeding in life because otherwise why would I be sabotaging myself? I've been a homebody for far too long. Tomorrow will be different. I'm going on a bike ride to a workshop at Cal State L.A. It's a workshop geared for women and empowerment. I'm very excited! It's been far too long of me avoiding the streets and connecting with others on something more than a business or intimate relationship. Yay for tomorrow. Here's an instant frump Friday foto.

For the times that you question your strength

Just remember, it can only get better.

Sometimes you have to say "ok"

There is a time & a place for everyone's happiness. The moment you commit to it, it's yours for as long as you want it. Be happy to stay happy, stay happy to be happy.

Enjoy each day as a blessing, anything less is selling yourself short.

Music, it's in my blood.

Something you may not know about me is that I am a classically trained violinist. My father is a percussionist & my brother makes beats. From time to time, I produce my own music, some of which I post on my soundcloud account. So, when I come across music that I appreciate, I know the best way to love it, is to share it.
Here is a video of E.V. Dub. He is a talented musician out in Los Angeles, CA. This might just be cover to some, but the emotion, the time, & talent must be recognized.

Sugar Does Portland

I've gotten such a great feedback from those involved to those at home checking out my designs. The reason I am a designer is because I believe it is in us all to create. I make clothing out of already made wear, I stitch & fold, cut & change everything about something that is already in existence. Being able to create something out of something is what I'm about: making something work from something that would normally be overlooked.
Here are some more photos that have been taken from my participation at the Sugar does Portland show on February 10th at Refuge - PDX.

Christina is wearing a "jump suit" dress. I made all of the Accessories & Clothing. Johanna is wearing a hoodie made entirely out of recycled fabrics, a top that has been shredded bottom to the mid-section. A skirt made of 5 pant bands. Genesy is also rocking a hood made from recyclable fabrics, a mini-pleated skirt, a red cropped top, & a silk-screened jean vest.

Oh! How I love what I do!

Now that it is all said and done,....

I want to make sure that I thank everyone who made the Fashion & Art show possible. From the venue owner, to the make-up artists, the sound engineers & music performances. The models, hair stylists, designers & organizers.. Thank you! I've got a good 11 hours left on this train trip back home, it's been a good ride but I'm glad to get back home.
Ta-ta for now <3

On the train to Portland

It's 3:05 pm in California, I'm about 6 hours away from reaching The bay area via this Amtrak train. I worked last night at The Airliner for blank Tuesday. I had a good time watching the bands and socializing with the people that attended. Here's a foto from last night and one from on the train.

I am a video girl

I'm in this video that my Bidnez partner Sabella Feliz Arroyo made of the paint session she hosted in her room.

Moving on up

I'm in the midst of moving out of my apartment & transitioning, as well as, preparing for a life on the road.  It's Sunday, February 4th. My move out date is on the 20th of this month & I leave for the Sugar does Portland show on the 8th to return on the 13th in time for ______ Tuesday on the 14th.

My, oh, my. Aren't I in for a wild time?
I've picked & packed very little. It's an overwhelming yet underwhelming experience. It has to get done...sooner than later.

For all you visual learners, here's what I'm up against.

It's atrocious, I know.
It is a nostalgic task at hand, although the rewards of it getting done are significant.

Tomorrow will mark the One Year Anniversary from the last time a comment was posted on my blogspot. Much of which lies on the lack of commitment I've dedicated to the blog over the past year.

This year, I vow to stay committed & be true to myself.

RAW talent : Savion Glover

I came across the name of this talented tap dancer while watching the sitcom "Martin". I was so impressed. Tap dancing is something that I've wanted to learn for a some time. I plan on learning how to tap dance but for now here's a video of Savion Glover. Enjoy.

Oldie but a Goodie

The High Road

In Oct. 2009 I got a DUI. Yeah, it's true. I got locked up overnight, my car impounded, released the next morning & was in for a life changing experience.

I had to enroll in DUI classes, do 90 hours of community labor, attend AA meetings, & on top of paying thousands of dollars to the courts, I had to live with the stigma of having a DUI.

I quickly realized that I, Linda Vanessa Tovar, am an alcoholic. I managed to stay sober for 6 months straight. It was the most embarrassing & degrading times of my life. I quickly began to loath even having a thought of anything alcoholic, eventually leading to drink again. I've since done a great job in monitoring and being a responsible drinker. The experience has taught me  lot about our government/court system, revealed  lot of truths about myself in which I'm taking the steps to being a better human being.

I can only hope that people consider drinking and driving a serious matter. I really appreciate and admirer my friends and co-workers that are responsible individuals. I'm happy to have them as role models. Be safe out there.
