Date Night with my Pops

Me & My Pops

I got the great idea to treat my dad out to a night of music and bonding. The radio station I live by, KPFK (90.7 fm in Los Angeles) had a benefit show @ the Mint in L.A

All the proceeds went to the radio station <3
Like a true gentlewoman, I drove to my dads apt. to pick him up.
I had to wait on my dad as he finished getting ready (I thought I was bad hahah) before we finally were ready to head over to The Mint. It's a nice joint, not to far from our respective homes.
The headliner and the reason for this occasion was to see Master Conguero Poncho Sanchez and his Latin Jazz Band. This truly was a treat not only for my dad but for me and all the other attendants that night. The band played an hour set filled with laughs, stories and good sounds.
ALL IN ALL a good night.I plan on taking out older family members in hopes and in search of a better understanding of why and who they are today and how they affect me in my life. I learned much about my dad in this one night that I would have at work with him. He is calmed and replenished by music. He is music. Lives and breathes it. Mad respect to you Pops.

A Day in the Life: 4/20/2009

It's fucking hot and I can't sleep. I get up @ 8 a.m. to take my lil' sis to school. Fuuughk what a pain that was. I leave her at the entrance and drive back to my moms queen sized bed. After dozing off to some re-run of I Love Lucy I get myself ready for work @ 11:45. It's 11:15 and I knew already I would be running late. Given that I was in the holiday spirit I sparred some time for some herbal meditation.

NOON= working with "Bebe's Kids"

I've got to say in all honesty that I love my job as a Pasadena Youth Leader for the Washington Middle School LEARNS program. I enjoy what I do. As much as these kids talk back, cuz at, and throw crap at and around me, I learn so much from them and the communities that surround me. I know family drama, kiddie drama, have heard the he said, she said but it seems that after head ache after head ache I still have the energy to teach them right from wrong by way of example. I'll admit, I might not be the perfect role-model, but I sure do a good job of keeping it G with my younging's. I surely do not want any harm done to them and their familes. I wish them a fufilling future of a good life with safe well balanced nutrition and lifestyles free of corruption, greed and evil. Ohhhh what a looong day this has been.

EVENING=Immortal Technique @ IMIX bookstore: Eagle Rock, CA

The bf met up with me at work and then we were off to check out a discussion with Immortal Technique in the E.R City. After another traditional cermony we were finally ready for the discussion. We got to Imix and managed to squeeze into the bookstore but in the very back. Determined to get a solid view of this event I along with the other few each worked ourselves through the crowd to get a satisfying viewing position. There must have been more than 75 people in the store. Tech was introduced and ready to start a dialogue. Overall the discussion was inspiring, informative, eye opening. Inspiring because I got to hear such an eloquent and knowledgable icon before me sharing his thoughts and stance on the American politcal situation past and present. From start to finish he held it down with "straight talk" and "cross referencing", which can also be understood as sharing what you know with others and in return taking what you learn from others. I felt a sense of community being in there with everyone. To learn that we all share the same universal struggle that has been lasting for more than a century was both informative and eye opening. Dying of hunger and dehydration, I was ready for some grub and yet another holiday get together with close friends. That leaves me here
